I was inspired to create a new DJ mix to celebrate the beginning of outdoor fun and warm weather here in the states. I’m still on the deep, funky, spacey and techy vibe, with a splash of tribal beats. Let me know if you enjoy this mix. Emails and Facebook messages are always welcome. Part 2 will be released in the next few weeks.

“Shine Your Light” by Carmen Perez on Underground Sun out of Venice, CA. I had a lot of fun working on this project. I’m the DJ in the video, video editor, DP for pick up shots and helped manage the post-production. Special thanks to Ricardo Torres for the visual effects!

I’m really happy to have a pair of Technics 1200′s turntables setup at Playloop west coast in Laurel Canyon. Can you believe they stopped making them?! I really love playing records and the physical interaction with the music. The warm rich sound of vinyl has a very unique sonic texture. I’m also obsessed with album cover art and the overall packaging experience. Led Zeppelin really pushed the artistic envelope with their covers and packaging. You should check out “Led Zeppelin III” and “Physical Graffiti”  for next level examples of album design.

We spent some of the weekend shopping for records around Los Angeles. Hit Amoeba on Sunset Blvd, the flea market on Melrose and Freakbeat Records on Ventura Blvd. We purchased Underworld’s “Two Months Off”, Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors” and Robert Plant’s “Principles of Moments”.

Did you know that vinyl record sales have hit their highest point since 1997? - Check out this story on the Washington Post.
